The second international conference on cancer stem cells (CSCs) was organized in Seefeld-in-Tirol (Austria) in December 2018. Although cancer stem cell research is not a wide scientific discipline, 69 scholars from 19 countries have participated in the conference. The program consisted of a morning and evening sessions with time for round tables and free communications of the attendees in between. This round table contained very interesting presentations that stimulated the fruitful discussions over 3 hours. The conference participants were very satisfied that they were provided with free time for scientific communications, discussion of the joint projects and possible collaborations.
The Poster Session was held on December 13, 2018, and the best poster presenter Sonia Alcalá Sánchez (Autonoma University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain) was selected by the Poster Award Jury (Margit Balazs, Yue Zhao, and Olga Gordeeva).
Based on the submitted abstracts, selected authors were invited to contribute to the conference-related special issue of the journal “Seminars in Cancer Biology” (Volume 53, 2018; IF=10,198; https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/seminars-in-cancer-biology/vol/53/suppl/C ). Additionally, Guest Editor Bruno Sainz Jr. and Editor-in-Chief Isaac P. Witz have invited the best conference speakers to submit their manuscripts to the journal “Cancer Microenvironment” (https://www.springer.com/biomed/cancer/journal/12307)
In two years, the conference “Cancer Stem Cells: Impact on Treatment” will be organized for the third time, and it expected that a higher number of participants will come to Seefeld-in-Tirol to discuss the hot topics in this research field.
